The square tube is leftover material from a table base and the loose hooks are leftover material from a student table. The coat rack and hooks are welded right along with the table frames during production, so less steel ends up in the waste bin!
Jos S has 6 openings for the loose hooks. This coat rack comes standard with 3 hooks and you can see for yourself how to divide them.
